The wildly catchy &#8220;Time to Pretend,&#8221; &#8220;Electric Feel,&#8221; and &#8220;Kids&#8221; (the latter featuring a truly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=fe4EK4HSPkI\">deranged music video<\/a>) are not out of keeping with the rest of their repertoire in terms of style and instrumentation, but the infectious hooks do stand apart from the forgettable rest. At their Celebrate Brooklyn concert in Prospect Park on July 1, they debuted a few new songs set for their forthcoming sophomore album that didn&#8217;t immediately grab me either.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignnone size-large size-full wp-image-1848\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/chadossman.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/mgmt-closeup-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"MGMT live in Prospect Park\" class=\"wp-image-6694\" srcset=\"https:\/\/chadossman.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/mgmt-closeup-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/chadossman.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/mgmt-closeup-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/chadossman.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/mgmt-closeup-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/chadossman.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/mgmt-closeup-1200x675.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/chadossman.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/mgmt-closeup.jpg 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">MGMT live in Prospect Park<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>For a band called &#8220;synth-hippies&#8221; <a href=\"http:\/\/pitchfork.com\/news\/35756-mgmt-to-open-for-paul-mccartney\/\">by Pitchfork<\/a>, they all looked rather clean-cut to me (but they evidently have a very young and boozy audience &#8211; one kid passed out and literally collapsed on our feet only a few songs into the concert). Their sound may be very electronic and a throwback to disco, but their live instrumentation is very rock guitar oriented.
