Abrams&#8217; Mission: Impossible III is preposterous and exhausting"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A few disconnected thoughts on <a href=\"https:\/\/chadossman.com\/blog\/tag\/jj-abrams\/\" data-type=\"post_tag\" data-id=\"469\">J.J. Abrams<\/a>&#8216; <em>Mission: Impossible III<\/em>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I rue the day <em>Terminator 2<\/em> (aka &#8220;<em>T2<\/em>&#8220;) came out and was a big hit; now every pre-ordained blockbuster comes abbreviated: <em>ID4<\/em>, <em>LXG<\/em>, <em>AVP<\/em>, <em><a href=\"https:\/\/chadossman.com\/blog\/the-mutant-menagerie-x2-x-men-united-movie-review\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"2035\">X2<\/a><\/em>, <em><a href=\"https:\/\/chadossman.com\/blog\/x-men-iii-the-last-stand\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"234\">X3<\/a><\/em>, and now of course <em>M:I:III<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Like most summer action blockbusters, <em>M:I:III<\/em> is at first enjoyably preposterous but quickly becomes exhausting. Although the plot is incredibly complex, it has no throughline to thread it all together; it&#8217;s a series of sequences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>M:I:III<\/em> is capped off with a truly terrible song by Kanye West. Of course it&#8217;s hard to top the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.u2wanderer.org\/disco\/64.html\">version by U2&#8217;s rhythm section<\/a>, but the producers could have covered themselves by picking somebody with a little more edge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Like Michael Jackson, it&#8217;s now almost impossible to watch <a href=\"https:\/\/chadossman.com\/blog\/tag\/tom-cruise\/\" data-type=\"post_tag\" data-id=\"41\">Tom Cruise<\/a> perform without his public persona coloring everything. On the other hand, he&#8217;s nothing if not intense, so perhaps that works in his favor here.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A few disconnected thoughts on J.J.
