{"id":337,"date":"2006-07-23T19:11:38","date_gmt":"2006-07-24T02:11:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chadossman.com\/blog\/2006\/07\/23\/the-dork-report-for-july-23-2006\/"},"modified":"2023-04-07T15:28:03","modified_gmt":"2023-04-07T19:28:03","slug":"the-dork-report-for-july-23-2006","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chadossman.com\/blog\/the-dork-report-for-july-23-2006\/","title":{"rendered":"The Dork Report for July 23, 2006"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>It&#8217;s the 20th Anniversary of <a href=\"https:\/\/realworldrecords.com\">Real World Records<\/a>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>Big Blue Ball<\/em>, a near-mythical Peter Gabriel album in the works since 1992, is finally <a href=\"https:\/\/realworldrecords.com\/releases\/big-blue-ball\/\">nearing completion<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Attention DJs (or at least folks who like to play with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.apple.com\/ilife\/garageband\/\">GarageBand<\/a>): remix &#8220;Shock the Monkey&#8221; and win a&#8230; um, some electronic thingie. (no longer online: realworldremixed.com)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Peter <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/arts-entertainment\/music\/features\/peter-gabriel-welcome-to-my-real-world-6097356.html\">writes about the label and the studio<\/a> in <em>The Independent<\/em>:&#8221;The first release on Real World was <em>Passion<\/em> &#8211; the soundtrack for the film <em>The Last Temptation of Christ<\/em>. It was also the first time I had recorded with Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, and perhaps the most extraordinary sessions to this day were when we were in the attic studio, which had a raised balcony at the back. The Indian violinist L Shankar stood up on the balcony and Nusrat was standing just behind the desk on the main floor. I think everyone had hairs standing on the backs of their necks as the music started. Both of them took the melody and made it their own. It was like tennis when you think the rally can&#8217;t get any better but each player raises their game and it just goes up and up. Amazingly emotional: it was India and Pakistan working together for a film about Christ&#8221;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>At the time of Live 8, Peter Gabriel righly pointed out no one had asked hardly any non-western musicians to participate. <a href=\"https:\/\/realworldrecords.com\/releases\/live-8-at-eden-africa-calling\/\"><em>Live 8 at Eden: Africa Calling<\/em><\/a>, a new live album culled from the Live 8 event put together by Gabriel and Youssou N&#8217;Dour.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Hopefully the The Dork Report isn&#8217;t in danger of becoming The Hoff Report, but&#8230; <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">The Hoff on Broadway<\/span>!
