{"id":360,"date":"2006-08-07T20:09:15","date_gmt":"2006-08-08T03:09:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chadossman.com\/blog\/2006\/08\/07\/the-dork-report-for-august-7-2006\/"},"modified":"2023-04-07T15:28:33","modified_gmt":"2023-04-07T19:28:33","slug":"the-dork-report-for-august-7-2006","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chadossman.com\/blog\/the-dork-report-for-august-7-2006\/","title":{"rendered":"The Dork Report for August 7, 2006"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Breaking news: &#8220;Sexy music <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20060827115442\/http:\/\/www.cnn.com:80\/2006\/HEALTH\/parenting\/08\/07\/sexlyrics.teens.ap\/\">triggers teen sex<\/a>.&#8221; How about just <em>being a teenager<\/em> triggers teen sex.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Those expecting Apple would release an iPhone-wireless-movie-store-tablet-computer-<a href=\"http:\/\/fusionanomaly.net\/sleeperwoodyallenholdingorb.jpg\">orgasmatron<\/a> at today&#8217;s WWDC conference were probably disappointed when they instead only announced techie things that matter to &#8220;D&#8221; for <em>developers<\/em>: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.apple.com\/macpro\/\">Mac Pro<\/a>, now with extra oomph. Apple claims it&#8217;s not only $850 less than the previous model PowerMac, but $950 less than the equivalent Dell. <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20190131234155\/https:\/\/www.macintouch.com\/reviews\/macpro\/prelim.html\">Macintouch<\/a> received theirs less than 24 hours after odering, but alas, it was dead on arrival. Ouch.<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20220801053236\/https:\/\/www.apple.com\/xserve\/\">XServe<\/a>. Not my territory, so no comment.<\/li><li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.apple.com\/macosx\/leopard\/\">Mac Os X Leopard<\/a>, with Time Machine (not that Macs ever die &#8211; snort! &#8211; but just in case), Spaces (Um, maybe. I&#8217;d have to try it.), Mail (I can say already that I&#8217;ll be using the To-Do feature all the time, but damn the thing is still fugly), and iChat (at last, animated buddy icons! &#8211; don&#8217;t laugh, I&#8217;ve designed dozens at my job). <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20061030113443\/http:\/\/www.dvdnewsroom.com\/mailbag\/your-kitty-moment-of-zen\/\">Sleeeeeeep, my kitty, sleeeeeep&#8230;<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>15&#8243; Powerbook G4 <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20061114071130\/http:\/\/www.flickr.com:80\/photos\/41783769@N00\/\">go BOOM<\/a>. At least two of my family &amp; friends own one of these. (spotted on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.engadget.com\/2006\/08\/06\/another-powerbook-violently-explodes\/\">Engadget<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20060824180155\/http:\/\/blog.wired.com:80\/cultofmac\/index.blog%3Fentry_id%3D1533636\">Cult of Mac<\/a>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Warner Music is going to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.engadget.com\/2006\/08\/04\/warner-music-preps-itunes-compatible-dvd-album\/\">sell albums on DVD<\/a> with surround-sound mixes, videos, etc.? Great, fine, and <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20160304211456\/http:\/\/www.musictap.net\/Reviews\/FlamingLipsYoshimiDVDA.html\">old news<\/a>. Yawn. But adding iTunes Music Store tracks to it is an interesting waste of space&#8230; it&#8217;s your legal right to be able to rip an album you own to a computer, so why would want pre-ripped files with <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Digital_Rights_Management\">DRM<\/a>?
