{"id":5689,"date":"2020-05-22T11:02:00","date_gmt":"2020-05-22T15:02:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chadossman.com\/blog\/?p=5689"},"modified":"2023-03-27T18:18:25","modified_gmt":"2023-03-27T22:18:25","slug":"a-time-twisty-scenario-interstellar","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chadossman.com\/blog\/a-time-twisty-scenario-interstellar\/","title":{"rendered":"Interstellar is a yet another time twisty Nolan scenario"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The torturously complex premise of Christopher Nolan&#8217;s <em>Interstellar<\/em> requires a constant stream of exposition throughout, something I don&#8217;t recall being a problem in the director&#8217;s other time twisty scenarios like <em>The Prestige<\/em> and <em><a href=\"https:\/\/chadossman.com\/blog\/christopher-nolans-fugue-state-inception\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"2042\">Inception<\/a><\/em>. It&#8217;s also less emotionally urgent than either, perhaps indicating that the high-concept structure overwhelmed everything else.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If Coop (<a href=\"https:\/\/chadossman.com\/blog\/tag\/matthew-mcconaughey\/\" data-type=\"post_tag\" data-id=\"1925\">Matthew McConaughey<\/a>) &#8212; and by proxy, the audience &#8212; needs to have everything constantly explained to him (before, during, and after anything happens), maybe he&#8217;s not the right person for the job. I know, I know, he\u2019s the pilot, and realistically each member of such a crew would have their area of expertise. But perhaps the protagonist of the film, and the one that is most lauded by humanity at the end, should have been either Murph (<a href=\"https:\/\/chadossman.com\/blog\/tag\/jessica-chastain\/\" data-type=\"post_tag\" data-id=\"1551\">Jessica Chastain<\/a>) or Amelia (<a href=\"https:\/\/chadossman.com\/blog\/tag\/anne-hathaway\/\" data-type=\"post_tag\" data-id=\"1798\">Anne Hathaway<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And I think maybe we were supposed to feel sentimental affection for the robots?
