Audrey&#8217;s motivations are semi-consciously selfish; she perhaps thinks that she can retain some connection with her dead husband by indefinitely extending his fruitless effort to help his childhood friend to kick his drug habit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/chadossman.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/things-we-lost-in-the-fire-del-toro-berry-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"Benicio Del Toro and Halle Berry in Things We Lost in the Fire\" class=\"wp-image-6260\" srcset=\"https:\/\/chadossman.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/things-we-lost-in-the-fire-del-toro-berry-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/chadossman.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/things-we-lost-in-the-fire-del-toro-berry-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/chadossman.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/things-we-lost-in-the-fire-del-toro-berry-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/chadossman.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/things-we-lost-in-the-fire-del-toro-berry-1200x675.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/chadossman.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/things-we-lost-in-the-fire-del-toro-berry.jpg 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>But unaware of the adage that one must beware what one asks for, she becomes resentful when her plan unexpectedly succeeds. Jerry does in fact begin to kick drugs, a neighbor takes an implausibly quick shine to him and offers him a job, he teaches one of her kids to swim (a task at which her husband had previously failed), and he responds to her flirtatious advances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Inexplicably, the movie ends with the wrong <a href=\"https:\/\/chadossman.com\/blog\/tag\/velvet-underground\/\" data-type=\"post_tag\" data-id=\"2174\">Velvet Underground<\/a> song; someone chose &#8220;Sweet Jane&#8221; over &#8220;Heroin.&#8221; Nor is there anything from the <a href=\"https:\/\/chadossman.com\/blog\/tag\/low\/\">Low<\/a> album of the same name.
