As a personal project, I created and maintained an unofficial fan site dedicated to the musician Michael Brook, first launched around 1996 or 97. It is a pity I didn't keep screenshots of the earliest versions. The site name came from two of his signature pieces of music: "Breakdown" and "Slow Breakdown".
I was a genuine fan, but the true purpose of the site was as a testing zone for working on the web. Over the course of several years, I repeatedly redesigned and refined the site whenever I learned something new.
Features included an exclusive phone interview I conducted with the artist, rare streaming audio and video in RealPlayer format, and a community listserv. Maintaining the site proved time-consuming, and the advent of Wikipedia and Discogs obviated most of the need for fan sites like this, so I slowly wound the site down over a few years, and officially retired it around 2002.
