As a personal project, I created and maintained an unofficial fan site dedicated to the musician Michael Brook, first launched around 1996 or 1997. The site name came from two of his signature pieces of music: "Breakdown" and "Slow Breakdown".
I was a genuine fan, but the true purpose of the site was as a testing zone for working on the web. Over the course of several years, I repeatedly redesigned and refined the site whenever I learned something new.
Features included an exclusive phone interview I conducted with the artist, rare streaming audio and video in RealPlayer format, and a community listserv. Maintaining the site proved time-consuming, and the advent of Wikipedia and Discogs obviated most of the need for fan sites like this, so I slowly wound the site down over a few years, and officially retired it around 2002.
